James Lewis “Sparky” Sparks, age 78, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, in Moultrie, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on July 11, 1947, in Anniston, AL, to the late James and Mary Louise Sparks, and grew up in Orlando, FL. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart. His military experience remained deeply meaningful to him throughout his life. Known lovingly by many as “Sparky,” James spent 41 years as a truck driver on routes from Florida to California to Maine and back. While in Orlando, he served as Governor of the Moose Lodge, where he built lifelong friendships. He was also active in various veteran organizations including the American Legion and Am Vets. He loved riding motorcycles, cruising the river on his pontoon boat with his family and camping in his RV. Sparky could always be counted on to bring laughter and joy wherever he went, especially as he portrayed James Brown at talent shows.
Sparky was known for his generosity and big heart — he would do anything to help anyone in need. He was the life of the party up until his very last day, and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.
His legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Gladys Sparks; his two sons, Adam Sparks and James Sparks; and his beloved stepdaughters, Michelle Sunday (Jason) and Tonya Revels. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren Revels (Kristen), Lance Revels, Jaden Cowart (Stephen), Jacie Cook (Chase), and Jayann Corson (Frankie); and great-grandchildren Kaylee Cowart, Pierson Cowart, Grayson Cook, and Hayes Cook. In addition, he leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings Mary Grace, Jimmy Lou, Randy, Margaret, and Martha.
