James "Jim" Johnson, 89 of Valdosta, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born December 17, 1936 in Cypress Illinois Johnson County. Jim was a beloved son of Wayne Evert Johnson and Helen Marie Randalls. A man of dedication and skill, Jim spent much of his career as a construction supervisor notably with Tom Hutchinson Construction CO., among his many achievements he played a pivotal role in the construction of Valdosta Mall in 1981. His expertise also contributed to other prominent Lowndes County landmarks, including the Rainwater Center, Lake Park Elementary School and other landmarks such as Lanier County High School, Moultrie Crime Lab, Norman Park Elementary, Westover Shopping Center, Slidell Mall in Slidell, Louisiana and the Houston Mall in Houston, Texas. Even after his formal career, Jim's work ethic, never waned, he found joy tending his yard and lovingly, addressing every·honey do task assigned by his devoted wife Joanne. Jim's early years were marked by determination while working as a machinist for General Motors in Chicago. He attended night school, continually striving to improve himself. His intelligence, resourcefulness, and perseverance defined both his professional and personal life.

He is survived by, his loving wife of 70 years, Joanne Musgrove Johnson of Valdosta, daughter, Becky Jo, and Michael Mahoney of Valdosta, grandchildren: Jessie DuBose-Moore and Michael Moore of Lake Park, Jamie and Greg Price of Wilmington, North Carolina : great grandchildren: Delaynie, Sage.and Tristian DuBose, Brooklyn and Noah Belote,Hudson Price, Katelynn, Michael, Jayden, Kiera, Cameran and Courson Moore, as well as, great great grandchildren: Samuel and Dakota. Jim also leaves behind his brother William Wayne and Lynn Johnson of Leesburg, Florida along with several nieces and nephews. Jim was proceeded in death by his son, Mark Dale Johnson and his grandson in law Henry DuBose husband of Jessie.

A private urn committal service will be held at the columbarium of Mclane Riverview Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 10 a.m. There will be a Celebration of Life at 4175 Beaver Run Road Valdosta, Ga 31601, after the service. McLane Funeral and Cremation Services are honored to assist the Johnson family during this time. Jim Johnson's legacy of hard work, family devotion, and quiet strength will be cherished by all who knew him. His contributions to the community and the love he shared with his family endure as a lasting remembrance.
