Irvin D. Grier, 91, of Brooks County, died at his residence on Monday, September 22, 2025. He was born in Eufaula, AL to the late John Samuel & Essie Morgan Grier on January 23, 1934. He grew up in Valdosta and graduated from Valdosta High School around 1950. He then served briefly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Army, Irvin became a fireman with the Valdosta Fire Department and served for 25 years before retiring. He then owned and operated Irvin Grier Properties, Inc. for several years. After retiring from real estate, Irvin started cattle ranching and raised Black Angus Beef Cattle. He was a member of West End Presbyterian Church, was a 32nd degree Mason , a Shriner and member of the Hasan Temple.
Survivors include two daughters and a son in law, Patricia & Johnnie Brown of Valdosta, and Cindy Stalvey of McDonough; two sons and a daughter in law, Joey & Ginger Grier of Thomasville and Mark Grier of Quitman; six grandchildren, Cole (& Erica) Grier, Cameron (& Christine) Grier, Kyle (& Andrew Wilson) Brown, Keely (& Matt) Frech, Travis (& Heather) Stalvey and Tyler (& Alea) Stalvey. Also surviving are 12 great grandchildren, and his sister, Nancy Burks of Thomasville. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Massey Grier, a brother Samuel Grier and a son in law, George Kennon Stalvey.
A graveside service for Mr. Grier will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Quitman. Rev. John Akers will officiate.
