Henry Walter “Walt” Green, 66, of Hahira, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in El Paso, TX, on February 9, 1960, to the late Elton Melvin Green and Emma Elizabeth Peace Green. His family moved to Valdosta when Walt was a child. He attended Lowndes County Schools and graduated from Lowndes High School. Walt had a long career with Lowndes County Public Works for over 40 years, retiring as a supervisor overseeing maintenance for the northern part of the county. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 38 years.
Walt was a faithful Christian and was known for his kindness, generosity and loyalty to everyone. He genuinely cared for others, never forgetting names or details. Walt was a humble leader, always putting the needs of others before his own. He was a devoted and faithful member of Morningside Baptist Church where he drove vans, led children’s discipleship and did anything else he could do to help and serve his church family. Walt used his own struggles and victories to encourage and help others, always giving glory to God and never seeking recognition for himself. He unconditionally loved his wife and children, and he was an adoring “Papa” to his grandchildren. He was always happy watching NASCAR races and being surrounded by family and friends at home.
Walt is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beth Green, of Hahira; his daughters and sons-in-law, Brandi and Klint Hendley of Valdosta and Amie and Red Berrian of Valdosta; his son, Ryan Green of Hahira; his grandchildren, Haylee (Nick) Denton of North Carolina and Jovan Berrian of Valdosta; his brothers-in-law, Lee Taylor (Connie) and James Taylor (Debbie) both of Acworth, GA; his sisters-in-law, Betty McCowan and Melissa Green, both of Valdosta, Jan Homes (Rick) of Hahira, and Sharon Willis (Chris) of Cartersville, GA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy McCowan and Bobby Green, and his sister, Becky Delk.
A funeral service for Walt will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Morningside Baptist Church, with Pastor Wayne Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared on the obituary page at www.mclanecares.com.
