Helen Dees Watson, 88, of Valdosta died Saturday August 2, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Valdosta on March 1, 1926 to the late Carnett Dees and Clara McPhail Dees. Helen was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She attended Clyattville High School and then worked for the Southern Railroad where she met her husband Buford. She was the mother of seven children including three sets of twins. These children were a handful, but she made sure they were at First Baptist every time the church doors were open. Helen was a loving grandmother and worked in the church nursery and sang in the choir in her latter years. She loved to cook corn to take to church functions and to the clergy. She became affectionately known as the "corn lady."
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Becky Barker of Asheville, NC, Sis and Bobby Jarrard of Hiawassee, GA, Ruth Watson and Greg Smith of Lake Park, two sons and daughters-in-law, Britt and Harriett Watson of Naylor, John Watson and Dora Carter of Valdosta, three sisters, Dorothy D. Beggs and Marion D. Copeland of Lake Park, Miriam D. Fletcher of Valdosta, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Watson, two sons, Buck and Mack Watson, granddaughter, Helen Jarrard, four brothers and one sister.
The family is deeply grateful for the wonderful care she received at Langdale Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, P. O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Mac Weaver and Reverend Steven Dees officiating.
