Hazel Stansel age 89, of Dalton and formerly of Valdosta, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Hamilton Medical Center.
Hazel was born September 4, 1934 to the late Edwin Walter White and Edna Marie White of Dixie, Ga, and was also preceded in death by her husband, James Stansel; son, Jerald "Jerry" Stansel; and her brother Carl White.
Hazel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was called Momma by everyone who got to know her and with her warm personality Hazel was loved by many. Hazel attended Dixie High School and was a star basketball player there. She retired from South Georgia Medical Center after 20 plus years of dedicated service. She loved her family and in her leisure time she enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, and embroidery. Her needlework won blue ribbons at the country fair for her intricate designs and detail. Her legacy lives on through her children.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Jan Hess and Judy and Jim Haefele; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Linda Stansel, Joe and Anita Stansel, and Steve and Debbie Stansel; sister and brother-in-law, Edwina and Milton Meadows, grandchildren, Steve, Barbara, Leslie, Jessie, Slater, Jim, Lisa, Stacey, Jennifer, Meadow, Vincent, Heather, Joe, Dusty, Jon Stephen, Amanda, Erica, Tommy, Brittany, and Jimmy; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Stansel on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 11 A.M. at Dixie Cemetery in Dixie, GA. Donations can be made to the Dixie Cemetery in Mrs. Stansel's name at PO Box 25 Dixie, GA 31629. Condolences may be conveyed on our website at www.mclanecares.com.
