Halden Ellsworth Elzey

Halden Ellsworth Elzey, 94, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday September 23, 2014, at his home. Born on January 4, 1920 in Ossian, Indiana, Mr. Elzey graduated from Northside High in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1939. He joined the Indiana National Guard and then went on to join the United States Army Air Corp. He spent his military career in Security Forces, serving in Italy, Japan and Okinawa, spanning World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era. Following his retirement from the military Mr. Elzey worked for the State of Georgia in University Security at Valdosta State University and he established campus security at South Georgia College in Douglas. He served as President of the University System of Georgia Officers Association.
Survivors are his daughter and her husband, Barbara and Eddie Hagan of Valdosta; daughter, Juanita Ellis of Blytheville, Arkansas; son and his wife, Rick and Charlotte Elzey of Hudson, Florida; grandchildren, Lisa (David) Long of Valdosta, Lori (Jay) Wilson of Hahira, Leslie (Marty) McGhin of Valdosta, Glenn (Karen) Ellis, Carter (Emily) Ellis, Leeton (Tina) Ellis all of Blytheville, Arkansas, Christine Elzey of Chicago, Illinois, Kim Webb of Hudson, Florida; fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Elzey, a half-brother, Jules Elzey, his daughter's husband, Gary Ellis, his mother, Donna Juanita Barrett Crowe and her husband, Cleo Crowe, and his father, Charles Edward Elzey and his wife, Edith.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at the graveside at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Dr. Ken Alford will officiate.
