George Russell Hatcher

October 21, 1944 — May 25, 2009

George Russell (Rusty) Hatcher, Sr., 64, of Lake Park, died on Monday, May 25, 2009, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Valdosta. A lifelong resident of Lowndes County, he was born on October 21, 1944, son of the late Paul Bennett Hatcher, Sr. and Martha Sherman Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Formerly an Assistant Manager in his family's business, Valdosta Iron Works, he was later head of maintenance at BathCraft. Rusty believed in hard work. He was a wonderful and loyal friend, father and brother. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Survivors are his son, Russ Hatcher of Lake Park, daughter and son in law, Leigh Hatcher and Aaron Scott of Valdosta, brothers and sister in law, Tommy and Frances Hatcher, Bud Hatcher of Valdosta, sister, Brenda Shelley of Valdosta, mother of his children, Dean Collins of Athens; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and caregivers at Heritage House Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Martha and George Sherman, T.E. and Elma Hatcher.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Reverend Richard Pieplow will officiate. The Hatcher family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
