George Winston Page, III, of Valdosta, died on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Conway SC, and growing up in Chadbourn, NC, George graduated from West Columbus High School where he played baseball. After graduation, he went to Western Carolina University at Cullowhee, where George was the equipment manager for the Catamounts, the WCU baseball team. While at WCU, George earned a degree in Parks & Recreation but also developed lifelong friendships that have been maintained through the years. After college, he worked with minor league baseball teams in the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves organizations. He then moved to Brunswick County North Carolina to be the Athletic Coordinator and then the Director of Parks and Recreation, where he served for over a decade. George then moved to Dalton, Georgia to be Parks & Recreation Director for Whitfield County. Then in 2011, he took a job with the Valdosta Lowndes Parks & Recreation Authority (VLPRA). George led VLPRA for 15 years, until his health required him to retire. George loved his job and was very successful at it. In 2016, he was awarded the State of Georgia Recreation & Parks (GRPA) Distinguished Professional of the Year. In 2019, the National Association of County Parks and Recreation Officials (NACPRO) awarded George the Professional Fellow of the Year Award, one of the highest national honors. Under his leadership, VLPRA was recognized multiple times as GRPA Agency of the Year.

In Valdosta, VLPRA has chosen to name the Baseball Fields at the North Lowndes Sports Complex the George Page Legacy Fields. George loved traveling with his family and friends, working in his yard, but especially loved helping maintain baseball fields for others. George was a member of Forrest Park Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife Kelly Brooks Page, of Hahira, son Matthew Cannon Page, son Brooks Roring Page both of Hahira, his mother Martha Sanderson Thompson, of Lake Waccamaw, of North Carolina, his sister Kelli (& Joe) Edmund, of Chadburn, NC, his brother Greg (& Jackie) Thompson, of Orlando, FL, his sister Angie Thompson, of Chadbourn, NC, his mother-in-law Gwen Brooks of Franklin, TN, sister-in-law, Tracy (& Tim) Bradford, of Goodlettsville, TN, brother-in-law Barry Brooks, of Thompson Station, TN, brother-in-law Rob (& Wendy) Brooks, of Gardendale, AL, brother-in-law Harold (& Karen) Von Klahr, of Kannapolis, NC, and several nieces and nephews; his father-in-law Wolfgang (& Terry) Von Klahr of Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his father George Winston Page, Jr., father-in-law Joe Brooks, and his grandparents.

A funeral service for George will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Forrest Park Church of Christ with Mr. Wesley Hazel officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will visit on Monday from 6-8pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
