GENE VICKERS, 64, of Valdosta died Monday, March 27, 2006 at his home. He was born in Berrien County on September 20, 1941 to the late Freddie P. and Rhoda Tyson Vickers and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Vickers was the manager of Ameris Bank at Troupeville and a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was an active member of Greenwood Baptist Church where he had served in many positions. He loved being with his grandchildren, golfing, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Londie Vickers of Valdosta, his children and their spouses, Beth and Ryder Lewis of Valdosta, Genia and Joel Dixon of Alapaha and Walt and Lynn Vickers of Lakeland, 10-grandchildren, Sage, Jade, Jude and Kade Lewis, Joleigh, Holt and Ali Dixon, Aiden, Hannah and Maddie Vickers, five sisters and four brothers in law, Maggie Vaughn of Thomaston, Ann and Alfred Bohanon of Clearwater, Fla., Ava and Sam Ramsey of Valdosta, Jo and Danny Culpepper of Valdosta, Faye and Richard Zitterour of Savannah, three brothers and sisters in law, Julian and Betty Vickers of Nashville, Bennie and Lou Vickers of Orange Park, Fla., Wayne and Judy Vickers of McRae, parents in law, Richard and Geneva Snow of Dixie, brother in law and sister in law, Vince and Kim Snow of Quitman, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends, Jimmy and Judy Whiddon, Jimmie and Dianne Cone, Clif, Dottie, Kaitlyn and Bailey Redish and the membership of Greenwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, March 30, 2006 at Greenwood Baptist Church with Pastor Benny Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8:30pm at the funeral home. Memorials maybe made to Greenwood Baptist Church Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for Home Missions.
