Gayle Smith Moreen, age 75, of Lake Park, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026 at Piedmont Hospital surrounded by the love of her family.
Gayle was born on June 26, 1951, to Eugene and Irene Smith in Muskegon, Michigan. In 1974, she married the love of her life, Carl Moreen, and together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. They built a life centered on family, hard work, laughter, and love.
Throughout her career, Gayle held a variety of roles, including retail management, education, and LAMP/Public Services, before enjoying a well-earned retirement. No matter where life took her, Gayle was known for her kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others.
Gayle’s faith was an important part of her life. She attended Wright’s Chapel Church of Echols County where she remained steadfast in her belief in Jesus and shared that faith with others throughout the years. She especially enjoyed teaching children about God’s love through the Vacation Bible School and Sunday School classes she taught. Her faith was reflected not only in what she believed, but also in the kindness, compassion, and love she showed to those around her.
Above all, Gayle was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. Her family was the center of her life, and she especially treasured time spent with her grandsons. She loved family camping trips, sewing and creating things for others, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Valdosta State football, cooking her treasured recipes for those she loved, and simply spending time together.
Some of her family's most treasured memories are of weekends spent camping, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, gathering around the table for home-cooked meals, and enjoying the ordinary moments that became some of the most meaningful.
Gayle will be remembered for her compassionate and giving heart, her devotion to her family, and the many ways she showed her love through caring for others. Her greatest joy was her family, and the love, traditions, and memories she created will continue to live on through them. Gayle’s legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply, the people whose lives she touched, and the many stories and memories that will continue to bring smiles for years to come.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Carl; her two children, Jennifer (Todd) and Curt (Lindsey); and her four beloved grandsons, Kannon, Maddox, Beau, and Asher. She is survived by her sisters, Kathy (Bill), Brenda (Gary), and Nan (Dave). She also leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles, sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Irene Smith.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park, Georgia. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Wright’s Chapel Church of Echols County. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Gayle’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gayle’s memory to Wright’s Chapel Church of Echols County or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Online condolences may be shared on the obituary page at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home
