Floyd R. Grice, 95, of Valdosta, GA, passed away on Saturday August 2,2025 at The Canopy in Valdosta, GA. He was born on January 13, 1930, in Ben Hill County, GA, to the late Joseph and Adel Grice.
Floyd is survived by his children, Joy (Bud) Bassford and Dale (Elaine) Grice, both of Valdosta, GA; seven grandchildren, Trey (Shea) Bassford, Mark (Morgan) Bassford, Brett (Ashlee) Bassford of Valdosta, GA, Brittany (Danny) Howell of Spanaway, WA, Carelee Douglas of Valdosta, GA, Derrick (Megan) Cook of Fayetteville, GA, and Brian Cook of Long Island, NY; 15 great grandchildren, Katie Ruth, Blake, Mason, Stella, Mae, Allison, Austin, Annie, Jackson, Austin, Avery, Brylee, Nolin, Lane and Bree. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Faye Marie Hagan, his grandson Chase Grice, and his siblings, Joyce, Florence, Lois, Benny, Bernard and Gene.
Floyd worked at Overman's and Levi Strauss company where he retired after 36 years but continued to work part time. He loved his animals, dogs, Snowball and Trouble, along with many other animals, goats, donkeys, and pigs. Floyd flourished in his gardens, loved planting and watching things grow. He enjoyed time spent on his tractor mowing the grass and his hayfields. He found joy and satisfaction in helping his kids and grandkids raise their pigs and prepare for their 4-H projects. “Daddy” always greeted folks with a handshake, a beautiful smile and a “thank you for coming”.
A special thank you to Annie Randell and Sarah Dasher, Heart of Hospice and The Canopy. We are grateful to have had angels along the way who have helped us to be able to care for our parents. For each of you, you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
A memorial service for Mr. Grice will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend John Chick will officiate the service, and burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church Adventures (1905 N. Patterson St, Valdosta, GA), or Heart of Hospice (515 St. Augustine Road Suite D, Valdosta, GA) condolences may be conveyed to the family on the obituary page of www.mclanecares.com
