Ernest B. Black, 74, of Valdosta died on Friday, April 3, 2009 at his residence following a short illness. He was born in Valdosta on May 26, 1934 to Richard Vernon Black and the late Wynell Holloway Black and has been a lifelong resident of Valdosta. He was a member and overseer of the Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ. He was also the "King" of the Dixie Cream Donut Shop for 42 years. He had also worked with his son, Alan, in the Black's Lawn Care Service for the past 3 years. He was considered the most wonderful husband, the best Dad and the most wonderful son who will dearly be missed.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jeweldine Black; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest Alan and Janet Black; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Danielle Nicole and Clayton Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Braylon and McKenzie Jackson; his father, Richard Black all of Valdosta; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Shirley Black of Walterboro, South Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Allen Black.
Services for Ernest B. Black will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Jere Via and Mr. Charles Wilson officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
