Eleanor C. Mirate

Eleanor C. Mirate, 94, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Heritage House Nursing Home after a period of declining health.

She was born August 24, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Ralph and May Colombo Festa. Mrs. Mirate came to Valdosta sixteen years ago and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a devoted grandmother, and enjoyed knitting and ballroom dancing.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Galen Mirate; a grandson, Milo Mirate, all of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Daniel Mirate, one sister and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with The Rev. Galen Mirate officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
