Edwin S. Syford, 83, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, April 18, 2026. He was born on December 12, 1942 in Tampa, FL to the late Vernon Syford and Mary Cumbie, and then grew up in Seffner, FL. In 1960, he graduated from Brandon High School before working at Walgreens for 37 years.
Edwin was a devoted friend, father, and husband who loved spending time with his family and at his church. He was known and loved as Poppy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved traveling, sports, and had been a deacon since the age of 28, serving in several churches throughout his life.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Connie Syford of Valdosta, GA; two daughters, Laurie (Gene) Rowell of Valdosta, GA and Cindie (Gary) Raulerson of Gaylesville, AL; grandchildren, Lauren (Clay) Thomas, Eugene (Emily) Rowell III, Madison (Evan) White, Joshua (Reagan) Rowell, all of Valdosta, GA, Caleb (Flora) Raulerson of East Elmhurst, NY, and Breanne (Alexander) Bryant of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Lauralynn Thomas, Trent Thomas, Maddilynn Thomas, Calvin Thomas, Pierce Thomas, Grant Thomas, Ella Rowell, Vivian Rowell, Eugene Rowell IV, Whitley White, John Evan White, Josie Rowell, Joshua Rowell Jr., and Miles Bryant; a brother, Harvey Cumbie III, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tom & Jean Derenthal.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Harvey Cumbie Jr.; and his brother, Robert Deason.
A service for Edwin Syford will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2026 at 2pm at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Robby Foster officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CDH International Global Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Charity or Ronald McDonald House Aurora, CO.
