Edna Mae Cannon Story, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at 95 years old. Edna Mae was born in Adel, Georgia, on February 10, 1931, to H.M. and May Cannon. Her life was one of faith, family, service, and love.

Edna is survived by her only daughter, Sherry Story Bennett and son-in-law Terry Bennett of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Hannah Bennett Stigall and Jason of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jud Bennett and fiancé Katie Krouse of Birmingham, Alabama; and her great-grandchildren, Ollie Bennett and Maeve Jane Stigall. She is also survived by many loving extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know her.

Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Richard Judson Story II; her parents, H.M. Cannon and Florida May Stone Cannon; and her sisters, Sue Spiess, Vivian Davis, Olya Fessard, Maxine Cannon, and Rosa Mullis. She is survived by her brother, Joe Cannon, her last living sibling.

As a young woman, Edna traveled to Macon to attend secretarial school. She lived in a boarding house across the street from a young man named Richard Judson Story. Their paths eventually crossed at Mabel White Baptist Church, where they met, fell in love, and began a life together. They were married on June 29, 1952, and remained devoted to one another throughout their lives.

Edna was a woman who wore many hats throughout her life. She worked at Robins Air Force Base as a contract management specialist, but she also found joy and purpose in many other roles. She became a mother, a beautician and owner of Ingleside Beauty Shop, a substitute teacher, a registrar at McEvoy B High School, and an activities director at Goodwill Nursing Home before returning to civil service work at Robins Air Force Base.

Her most cherished roles were those of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Edna loved her family deeply. She treasured time with her grandchildren and later delighted in her great-grandchildren, Ollie and Maeve Jane. She was the kind of grandmother whose love was shown not only in words, but in the time she gave, the things she did, and the memories she helped create. Her family was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Her faith was at the center of who she was. Edna was a lifelong and devoted member of Mabel White Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and Girls in Action (GA’s) and faithfully served in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). She took seriously the call to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Great Commission, serving others both at home and around the world. Her faith was not simply something she talked about. It was something she lived. Edna also gave generously of her time to her community. She was a charter member of the Exchange Club of Bibb County Exchangettes, where she served as president and was honored as Exchangette of the Year in 1990. She approached every responsibility with dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Outside of work and church, Edna enjoyed the simple things that made life special. She loved helping with her grandchildren, spending time with family, being an Exchangette, and enjoying days at the family farm. Those ordinary moments became precious memories for the people who loved her.

Edna lived 95 years, and those years were filled with people she loved, a family she cherished, a church she faithfully served, and a Savior in whom she placed her trust.

She leaves behind much more than memories. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, devotion, kindness, service, and love that will continue through her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and all those whose lives she touched.

Her family will miss her dearly—the sound of her voice, her stories, her presence, and simply knowing she was there. But they are grateful for the beautiful life she lived and for the love she gave so freely.

Edna Mae was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her earthly journey is complete and that she is now at home with the Lord she faithfully served
