Dupont Fomby Hardin, Sr., 88, of Valdosta died Thursday, May 16, 2024 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on November 11, 1935 in Valdosta to the late Joseph G. and Carolyn Smith Hardin. A lifelong resident of Valdosta he graduated from Valdosta High School. He played football for the late Coach Wright Bazemore playing on the 1953 and 1956 state championship teams. He retired from Packing Corporation of America after 30 years and South Georgia Medical Center after 15 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Valdosta. For 56 years, he was married to the late Sue Ann Rehberg Hardin. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he was known to make others laugh with his clever and funny humor. His main hobby was taking care of his family, whether it be elders or anyone in need. He was a very dependable person to his family and friends, never hesitating to help others in need.
Survivors include his son, Dupont Fomby Hardin, Jr. of Valdosta, son Edwin Dirk Hardin and daughter-in-law Tina Hardin of Valdosta, son-in-law William F. Yeomans of Quitman, and grandchildren, Louie Edward Thompson, III of Valdosta, Amber Ford of Valdosta, Kathryn Surrency and her husband, Jonathan Surrency of Adel, two great grandchildren Bren Surrency and Trae Surrency, and two step great grandchildren, Sam Brown and Cheyenne Brown. He is also survived by his twin brother and sister in law, William Irving “Billy” and JoAnn Hardin; niece, Sabrina Hardin Adams, and a nephew, Bill Hardin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sue Ann Rehberg Hardin, and daughters Trena Sheree Hardin Yeomans and Mona Celest Hardin and a step granddaughter Melinda Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, May 20, 2024 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Olliff officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
