Dr. Janice Loeffler, 72, of Athens, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 9th, 2026.
Janice was born on October 31, 1953, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Stella Loeffler. She earned both her Bachelor of Science degree and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Saskatchewan. She earned her Specialist Certificate in Pediatrics from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Winnipeg, Canada. She later moved to Valdosta, Georgia, where she would spend the next four decades caring for generations of families as a beloved general pediatrician and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Throughout her 40-year career, Dr. Loeffler was known for her compassion, dedication, and deep commitment to her patients. She had a special passion for caring for children with significant disabilities and was a strong advocate for vulnerable children in her community. One of the roles closest to her heart was her work with the Children’s Advocacy Center, where she served as Medical Examiner and helped care for and protect children in difficult circumstances.
Outside of her medical career, Janice enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and she lovingly created handmade baby blankets for family and friends, gifts that will continue to wrap loved ones in warmth and memory for years to come. She treasured time with her family and especially loved being a grandmother.
She is survived by her loving husband, Harrison Tillman; her children, Robert (Anne) Tillman, and Stephanie (Ashton) Hattori; and her cherished grandchildren, Carter, Sadie, Skyler, and Ryder. She is also survived by her mother, Stella Loeffler, and her brother, Robert Loeffler.
Janice will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the children and families she served. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched throughout her career and in the love she shared with her family.
A visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 PM on Friday, March 13, at Carson McLane Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, in the Chapel at Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lowndes County Children’s Advocacy Center in honor of Dr. Loeffler’s long commitment to caring for and protecting children.The service will be streaming on Saturday on her obituary page at www.mclanecares.com, where you may also offer condolences to the family.
