Dorothy L. Bostic, 93, of Valdosta, died on Friday, September 11, 2026, following a brief illness. Born in Echols County to the late Jesse Staten & Callie Lou Vann Lightsey, she grew up in Echols County and graduated from Echols County High School around 1950. Dorothy soon started to work at Belk’s Department Store in downtown Valdosta. During these days, she met John Bostic on a blind date, they started dating and then were married on July 18, 1953. They have now been married for 73 years. She then worked briefly at the ASCS office before going to work at the Little Griffin Hospital. Dorothy continued to work at the hospital as it moved and became Pineview Medical Center, then later as it became South Georgia Medical Center. In her later years there, Dorothy worked in admissions and administration and retired after more than 40 years of service. Throughout these years, she also helped support her husband as he worked on the family farm. Following retirement jumped right in to working in her yard and garden, ferrying grandchildren around and cooking food for family and friends. She was a longtime member of Bemiss United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John E. Bostic of Valdosta; a son and daughter in law, Andy & Lisa Bostic of Valdosta, a daughter and son in law, Dee & Darryl Wood of Valdosta and a son Jody Bostic of Jacksonville, FL; her sister in law, Joan Lightsey of Lake Park and seven grandchildren, Lindsi (& Ben) Elliott of Hahira, Keeli Thomason of Hahira, Gabe (& Regan) Cason of Hahira, Lauren (& Allen) Sirmans of Valdosta, Jessica (& Matt) Varn of Hahira, Nikki (&Tom) Nelson of Columbia, SC, Ian (& Nita) Wood of Fredericksburg, VA. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a devoted caregiver, Joann Robinson. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Smith and her brother, Vernon Lightsey.

A private family service will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bob Ellis will officiate.
