Dorothy Allbritton Simpson, 96, of Valdosta passed away at her home in Valdosta on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Born in Ousley on December 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late George Isaac Allbritton and Gladys Minton Allbritton. Dorothy was a beauty school graduate and an accomplished hairdresser. While in San Diego with her husband who was in the Navy, Dorothy was named “Lady Peacock of San Diego” in 1949. She was an excellent cook, loved working with flowers and enjoyed a good day fishing. A member of Westside Baptist Church, she loved to study the Bible. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and especially her only granddaughter. Dorothy had made her home in the Troupeville area of Valdosta since the 1960’s.
Survivors are her daughter, Norma Jean Johnson and Tim of Valdosta, granddaughter, Heather Nicole Johnson of Valdosta, brother, Wallace Allbritton of Valdosta, sister, Faye Grant and O’Neal of Valdosta, numerous nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dorothy’s special caregivers, Jean Corbett, and Dorothy Hope. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman W. Simpson, brothers, Bill Allbritton, Ashley Allbritton, Ike Allbritton, sisters, Audrey Kiser, and Mildred Kiser.
Funeral services for Mrs. Simpson will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Ernie Jones will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday before the service from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia or to a preferred charity.
