Donald Alexander DeWitt was born to Edward DeWitt Sr. and Barbara Sturm in Panama City, FL on November 18, 1953. A proud Marine veteran, devoted family man, and passionate food service entrepreneur, Donald’s life was marked by service, hard work, and community.

He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, where he earned both the Marksmanship and Good Conduct Awards. After his military service, Donald pursued his education and earned an associate’s degree in food service, which paved the way for his entrepreneurial spirit.

Donald opened “Land Ho” his first restaurant, his second restaurant was “Mr. D’s” sharing his love for good food with the community. Later, after moving to Valdosta, Georgia, he continued his passion for food service by opening a restaurant specializing in hearty, palatable meals such as steak and potatoes.

When not working, Donald enjoyed bowling and was an avid fisherman, frequently traveling across Georgia to participate in fishing competitions. He treasured family gatherings, especially potlucks filled with good food, laughter, and the company of loved ones, often accompanied by a cold beer.

Donald and his wife Judy were active members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Valdosta, where they found fellowship and community.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Judy, two daughters, Candi Ashdown of Las Vegas, NV, and Michelle Coelho of Nashville, GA; one granddaughter, Alexandra Ashdown; two brothers, Johnny Sturm of Johnstown, NY, and James DeWitt of Ray City, GA; and sisters, Tammy Reynolds, Deborah Naraine, Andrea Alcanter, and Melinda DeWitt, all of Valdosta, GA.

Donald was preceded in death by his brother Edward DeWitt Jr., sister Daphne Fortune, stepfather Leo Sturm, and stepmother Celene DeWitt.

Donald will be cremated, and the family is planning a memorial service to celebrate his life at Messiah Lutheran Church in Valdosta at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
