Diane Elizabeth Wagers Hamby, 80, of Valdosta, died on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Langdale Hospice House following a lengthy illness. She was born on November 5, 1945, at Ft. Benning, Georgia to the late Warren and MaryAnn Wagers. Upon her graduation from high school, she attended Crawford Long Nursing School and obtained her RN degree. She entered the military as a nurse and served in the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Her career as a nurse took her to many different hospitals and health care facilities and eventually ended her career with Memorial Home Health. After retiring from nursing she opened a gift shop with her husband. Later, she worked with her family at Storey Machining Services where she worked in the office taking care of customers. Diane loved her cat, reading, and going to thrift stores and garage sales with her daughter and her sisters, She was always ready to play board games with her grandchildren and spend time with her family. She was very kind and would do anything within her power for her family. Everyone she met said she was such a sweet lady. Christmas was probably her favorite time of the year. She loved decorating and especially loved Santas. Giving gifts to her family brought her so much joy. She had a few different collections over the years. Most recently she had an extensive salt and pepper shaker collection.

Diane is survived by her husband, Herschel Hamby of Valdosta; her daughter and son-in-law, Mya and Jeremy Storey of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Juleah and David Martin stationed in Japan, Zoey Storey of Savannah, Georgia, Nathan Storey and Taylor Storey both of Valdosta; her sisters, Carol Scheufler, Bonita Wagers, Patty Groetken, and Joann Thaxton, and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate the life of Diane Hamby will be held from 2-4pm on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Park Place by McLane. Online condolences may be conveyed at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane.
