Dennis W. Schunhoff

Dennis W. Schunhoff, 68, of Lake Park, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at South Georgia Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Walterboro, SC to Tom and Catherine Thompson Schunhoff on September 14, 1957. The Schunhoffs moved to Valdosta when Dennis was very young, and he attended Valdosta City Schools, graduating from VHS in 1975. A very resourceful, hard-working individual, Dennis started working in high School at Burger Chef. He did briefly attend South Georgia State College in Douglas but soon returned to Valdosta to work at Irvin’s the Mans Shop, in part to support his passion to always be a snazzy dresser. During this time Dennis worked several other jobs and was also a member of the Valdosta JCs. In the late 1980’s, Dennis started D&S Cleaning Service. A very early contract, and his favorite, was to clean the Valdosta Mall. Dennis was a great entrepreneur owning, managing and soliciting new business for D&S Cleaning Service. He was also an excellent boss, inspiring and motivating his employees, leading by example. He operated D&S for over 30 years, until his health prevented him from continuing. A workaholic who instilled a strong work ethic in his children as well in anyone who knew him. Dennis’s favorite pastimes kept him outside, hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was turkey hunting, calling to a big ole Tom in the woods. He attended the Lake Park Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Dennis Schunhoff of Lake Park, his daughter and son in law, Caitlyn S. & Dillon Johnson of Hahira; his son and daughter in law, Chesley & Maryleigh Schunhoff of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Luke Johnson, Carson Schunhoff and Colton Schunhoff. Also surviving are his parents, Tom & Catherine Schunhoff, his sister and brother in law, Brenda & Ed Strohl, two brothers and a sister in law, Dexter & Joy Schunhoff and Tommy Schunhoff, all of Valdosta; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral for Dennis will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at the River Pavilion at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Terry Carter and Columbus Carter will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5 until 7 pm. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Lake Park Church of Christ.
