David Lawrence Leonard, of Lake Park, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at his home. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 16, 1948, David was the son of the late Byron Gregory Leonard and Dorothy Voneberstein Leonard. He owned and operated Fisherman’s Paradise in Valdosta for 22 years. His customers knew him as a legendary bass fisherman. David served as Weigh Master for the “Lowndes County Bass Master’s Fishing Club.” He helped coordinate many fishing rodeos for children’s charities and he also enjoyed deer hunting.
David is survived by his loving wife of almost 53 years, Judy Rowland Leonard of Lake Park; his son and daughter in law, Ronald (Kimberly) Adkins of Jennings, Florida, daughter and son in law, Rhonda (Ramon) Bezanilla of Valdosta; son, Carl Leonard of Slocomb, Alabama; son, David Jr., (Rebecca) Leonard of Macclenny, Florida; grandchildren, Landon Adkins, Luke Adkins, Leanna Adkins all of Jennings, Florida, David Griner of Valdosta, Carlson Leonard, Chesley (Cort) Brown, Karley Leonard all of Slocomb, Alabama; great grandchildren, Gavin Griner, Hayden Griner of Valdosta, Ryan Brown of Slocomb, Alabama, Jody Leonard, Alysa Leonard of Macclenny, Florida; brother, Stanley Leonard of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Byron Leonard, Jr., and Donald Leonard.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 2:00 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Ben Weeks will officiate. Burial will follow at Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Carson McLane Funeral Home is serving the Leonard family.
