David Eugene Long

David Eugene Long, 61, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at South Georgia Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Valdosta on March 10, 1962 to Eugene Long and the late Ina Faye Dopson Long. David met his wife Lisa first while he was working for her father at Hagan’s Grocery Store. He graduated from Valdosta High School in 1980, and then he attended Wiregrass to learn the skill of welding. David worked for a time as a welder for Brooks Welding. Lisa and David were married on December 1, 1984, at Lee Street Baptist Church. David experienced health challenges related to welding which led him to consider and pursue the career of Nursing. David graduated from VSU in 1996 with a Nursing Degree. He began working at SGMC where he worked for over a decade, then worked for Greenleaf for several years before moving to Pruitt Health Hospice, where he has been for the last 10 years. He loved to fish, the outdoors, and working in his yard. He loved his family and was especially proud of his children and grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Lisa Hagan Long, of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Travis David Long and Jill Long, of Deland, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Keri Long Miller and Christopher Miller, of Daytona Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Henry Long, Theodore Long, Ezekiel Miller, and Margot Miller; father, Eugene Long, of Nashville, GA; his parents-in-law, Eddie and Barbara Hagan, of Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Sirmons (Darrell) of Milledgeville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Jim Long (Adia) of Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law, Lori Lasseter (Steve) of Nashville, GA; sister-in-law Lori Wilson (Jay) of Hahira; sister-in-law Leslie McGhin (Marty) of Valdosta; brothers-in-law, Eskel Odom, and Jerry Wilson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ina Faye Long and sisters Michelle Wilson and Debbie Odom.

A memorial service for David will be held at 11am on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Bussey officiating.
