David Drew, 77, of Hahira, GA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, June 23, 2025. Born on October 5, 1947, in Hahira, to the late Oris and Margaret Drew Boyette. He was a lifelong resident of the community he loved.
A graduate of Hahira High School in 1965, David played basketball for the Tigers before attending Valdosta State College, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in science in 1970 . He then briefly worked for Coca-Cola before spending nearly 30 years at Bayliner Boats, later working as an electrician for Lowndes County Schools until retirement.
David was passionate about sports and deeply involved in his sons’ athletic journeys. He rarely missed a game—and never wanted to leave before the final pitch, though on occasion, the umpire insisted he do just that after some “discussions” about balls and strikes.
Remarkably, David is the only father to have three sons drafted in the first round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft. Yet, he remained humble, never letting their success change who he was.
More than anything, David loved Sundays at Bethany Baptist Church, where he found joy in worship and fellowship with his church family for 55 years! His life was defined by faith, family, and his love for his wife Libby of 49 years!
Survivors include his three sons and daughters in law, J.D. & Sheigh Drew of Hahira, Tim & Tara Drew of Anderson, SC, Stephen & Laura Drew of Hahira; thirteen grandchildren, Jack, Ella, Lucy, Henry & John, Abigail, Madison, Wyatt & Rhett, Hank, Nolan, Lainey & Lyla. Also surviving are his brother and sister in law, Alan & Diane Drew of Valdosta, a brother in law and sister in law, Rev. Ike & Lisa Jefferson, and several nieces. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ruth Drew.
The funeral for Mr. Drew will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Bethany Baptist Church. Rev. Clyde Stokes and Rev. Jeff Riley will officiate. Burial will follow at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Sunday from 1:30 pm until services time.
