Darrell Barwick, 73, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, May 18. He was born to the late L. M. Barwick and Geneva King Barwick on February 24,1953 and grew up in Valdosta.
After graduating high school, Mr. Barwick went to Val Tech (now Wiregrass) to study respiratory therapy and started working at South Georgia Medical Center. There he worked from the early 80s until his retirement in 2014. Soon after, he returned to work at 1st America Home Health, still helping those with respiratory issues. He was skilled as a respiratory therapist, but in particular, he was incredibly skilled at making his patients feel cared for.
Mr. Barwick was a true person as well as being adept at fixing things and solving problems for ‘his girls’, and so many other family members and friends. His favorite pastime was fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Barwick, of Valdosta; his daughters, Cris (Mike) Sheffield, Renee (Bruce) Davis, both of Lake Park, and Heather Jackson, of North Carolina; grandchildren, Trent Davis, Brandon Davis, Bray Sheffield, Cheyenne (Johnny) Williams, Jessica Cashwell, and Clay Cashwell; great grandchild, Skyler Williams; brothers, Dan Barwick of Valdosta, David Barwick, and Dewayne Barwick, both of Nahunta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering in Mr. Barwick’s memory will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 12 – 2 p.m. at The Table at Twin Lakes in Lake Park. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclanecares.com
