Cindy Moses

April 16, 1954 — July 26, 2025

Valdosta, GA

Cynthia (Cindy) Catherine Moses, age 71, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her family on Friday, July 25, 2025, after a seven-month battle against pancreatic cancer. She was born April 16, 1954, in Westfield, New Jersey to Harold Crandall Titsworth and Doris Grace Titsworth (Nana). Growing up she enjoyed playing sports like lacrosse and synchronized swimming. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Lynchburg College (now Lynchburg University), and later attended Valdosta State University where she earned both a Master’s and an Education Specialist degree. She was married to William (Bill) Walker Moses IV on April 8, 1978. She referred to him as her soulmate. This marriage produced Cindy’s pride and joy, their son, Walker Crandall Moses on March 8, 1993. Walker was the center of her universe. Even in her last few weeks of life, a smile would light up her face as soon as she saw him come near. Cindy’s life was devoted to her family, teaching, and rescuing animals.

Cindy’s love of teaching began in a hospital waiting room where she taught a child how to spell ‘Mississippi.’ That experience was so fulfilling that she was hooked.

Cindy first taught in Macon, Georgia before moving to Valdosta. She taught at Southeast Elementary School from 1984-1986, and then at S. L. Mason, where she taught until she retired in 2012. She would go on to teach in retirement at St. John Catholic School. Cindy was truly gifted in combining delivery of knowledge with her infectious enthusiasm. Her creativity and unmatched energy could engage every student. Ms. Moses’ former students still love her dearly and they often share stories about the valuable lessons they learned from her and her unconventional teaching methods. For her colleagues, she always had a listening ear and would do anything to help a fellow teacher improve their lessons or make a t-shirt they needed to wear to school the following day. She was so admired by the S. L. Mason faculty that she was selected by her peers as the 1989-1990 Teacher of the Year. As one administrator described her, “Cindy is a hard worker, never satisfied to do an adequate job. She improves, redefines, and continues to pursue excellence in education.’ At St. John Catholic School she was remembered as being, “a one-of-a-kind … a dry sense of humor and a heart of gold, that was especially dedicated to children and animals.”

The United Saving Animals Rescue Team states, “After fully retiring from teaching, Cindy became an important part of the local rescue community. Not only was she an administrator for the rescue, but she also founded Nana’s Sanctuary, a home for all animals that need a safe place to live until they can find their furever home or to live their lives there. Cindy ran Nana’s Sanctuary mostly by herself and some help from volunteers, feeding and caring for donkeys, pigs, sheep, dogs, and cats. Cindy devoted the rest of her life to saving animals.

Cindy was a member of Park Avenue Church and served in the handbell choir.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Doris Titsworth, her ‘soulmate,’ Bill Moses, her niece Megan Beck, and her brother, Geoff Beck.

She is survived by her son, Walker Moses, his wife and Cindy’s ‘daughter-in-love,’ Kelly Moses, and her grandchildren, Jack and Benjamin Moses. Other survivors include her sister-in-law Karen Beck and niece Erin Beck of Westfield, New Jersey, and a cousin, Thomas Titsworth of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by countless friends who had the privilege of knowing her.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00.
