Cleveland Wayne Shaw, 77, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 6, 1949, in Valdosta to the late Elliott Roy Shaw and Frances Crosby Shaw. He graduated from Lowndes High School in 1967. He had a natural talent for playing the guitar, a gift he enjoyed throughout his life.
Following high school, Cleveland briefly served in the U.S. Army. After returning to Valdosta, he came home to help support his family. In January 1970, he founded Shaw Brothers Tent and Awning, beginning a business that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to those he loved.
On August 7, 1970, Cleveland married the former Gail Lamon, and together they shared nearly 56 years of marriage. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he loved the Lord and trusted Him in all things. Cleveland was known for his generosity, quietly helping family, friends, and even strangers without seeking recognition. He gave freely and supported others with humility and compassion.
Cleveland is survived by his wife, Gail Lamon Shaw of Valdosta; his sons and daughters-in-law, Clay and Gwin Shaw of Lakeland, Georgia, and Josh and Callie Shaw of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Gailey Shaw, Elliegrace Shaw, Judson Shaw, and Rylee Shaw; his sister, Gwennette Farmer; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Shaw and Sylvia Shaw, both of Valdosta, Charlene Lamon (Roger Rampley) of East Palatka, Florida, Regina Tyner (Alan) of Niceville, Florida, and Wanda Branam (Darrell) of Valdosta; his brother-in-law, Thomas Lamon (Joy) of Ocala, Florida; his good friend, Larry Thomas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Colton Shaw; his brothers, David Shaw, James Shaw, and Winston Shaw; his brother-in-law, Harry Farmer; his brother-in-law, Richard Lamon; his parents; and his mother-in-law, Amelia R. Lamon Curry.
A funeral service for Cleveland will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Brian Gay officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the funeral home.
