Carolyn Elizabeth Newbern Hill, age 94, passed away at Langdale Hospice House on Monday, March 9, 2026, after living a full and beautiful life devoted to her faith and family. She was born on February 11, 1932, in Valdosta, Georgia, to James Frank Newbern and Cora Lee Herndon Newbern.

Carolyn grew up in Valdosta and later married her high school sweetheart, William “Billy” Hill. Together they shared sixty-seven wonderful years of marriage and built a life centered on love, faith, and family.

In her early years, Carolyn worked for Southern Bell as a telephone operator. After starting her family, she devoted herself to being a homemaker and raising her three children. She was an amazing cook and baker and found great joy in caring for others. Carolyn truly never met a stranger. If you knew her, you loved her. She was known for her radiant smile, positive and spunky spirit, and infectious laugh.

As her children grew older, Carolyn continued serving her community in many ways. She volunteered at the hospital in Valdosta as a Pink Lady, a role that reflected her greatest qualities—kindness, compassion, and a genuine love for helping others. She also worked during the Christmas season at Dasher Pecan and remained actively involved in her children’s lives by volunteering at their schools as a room mother and helping with many activities and events.

Carolyn was a lifelong and devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and later Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Her faith was central to her life, and she loved Jesus and her family with all her heart. In her later years, when it became difficult for her to attend services at her church home at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, she greatly enjoyed the in-house church fellowship services held on Sunday afternoons where she lived. Those gatherings brought her comfort and continued connection with worship and community.

For the past three years, Carolyn resided at Langdale Place, where she enjoyed living among many lifelong friends. Her warm personality, loving spirit, and joyful presence made her beloved by everyone who knew her.

Carolyn was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. Her life was marked by kindness, service, laughter, and deep love for those around her.

Mrs. Hill is survived by her children, Randy Hill (Debbie), Christa Walker (Terre), and Susie Tison (Bruce); her grandchildren, Lance Walker (Ashley), Jason Walker (Whitney), Travis Hill, Lauralee Beauregard (Matt), and Grant Tison; and her great-grandchildren, Hannah Walker, Mason Walker, and Sutton Beauregard. She is also survived by her niece Pam House (Stan), Megan Tovar (Anthony), and Katelyn House.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Frank Newbern and Cora Lee Herndon Newbern; her siblings, Sara Margaret Peters and Frank Newbern; her brother-in-law, John Knight Peters; her sister-in-law, Gloria Newbern; and her beloved husband, Billy Hill.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Pastor Ashley Corbett will lead the service. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday before going to the graveside.
