Carl Arland Burrell

Carl Arland Burrell was born on May 3, 1930 and passed peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Carl was a kind and generous family man, friend, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since birth and an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.

Carl was born on May 3, 1930 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Vera Homer Monson and Carl A. Monson who later divorced. In 1935, Vera married Arthur Burrell, who was Carl’s adoptive father the rest of his life.

Prior to meeting the love of his life, Carl was married, had five children and divorced. On June 16, 1975, he and Yetta Jane Sanderbeck were married in Portsmouth, NH by a local bishop. They were sealed on June 16, 1978 in the Washington. D.C. Temple.

Carl served his country in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 3rd Class from 1953-1955 where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was in the Army Reserves for the next 20 years. He joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1975 as a reserve recruiter for the next five years where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Medal. Carl also worked for the Civil Service as an electrician at Hill AFB, UT from 1980-1985 before retiring home to Valdosta to be with family.

Carl was an avid volunteer. With Yetta by his side, he did computer work for the LDS Church all over south Georgia. He was also a SGMC Auxiliary volunteer and helped rewire the hospital.  Throughout their life together he and Yetta traveled extensively both nationally and internationally.

Carl is survived by his wife of 49 years, Yetta Jane Burrell, his bonus daughters, Diane Sanderbeck and Julie Shadrick, and his bonus son, Scott Sanderbeck. He is also survived by a host of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his sister, Ardith Barnett (Jerry). Carl was especially proud of his grandsons, Ryan Burrell (Jenny) and Brady Burrell (Mary). Carl loved being a Grandpa.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2500 Jerry Jones Drive, Valdosta, GA officiated by Bishop Chad Pierce. Visitation at 1:00pm prior to the start of the service. Burial will take place at 1:00pm Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32311.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carl may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank of South Georgia, 1411 Gil Harbin Blvd. Valdosta, GA 31602. Online condolences can be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
