Burnice C. (Skeeter) Hiers

Burnice C. (Skeeter) Hiers, 62, of Thomasville and formerly of Valdosta, died on Monday, April 25, 2005, at Archbold Medical Center. Born on October 12, 1942 in Valdosta, he was the son of L. B. and Lillian Hiers of Valdosta. He was a Valdosta State University police officer, a retired Deputy Sheriff for Lowndes County. He was in the Air Force Reserve and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are his wife, Elverna Griffis Hiers of Thomasville; son and daughter-in-law, Clifford, Sr. and Jennifer Hiers of Lake Park; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jackie Coker of Sylvester; 6 grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Amy Hiers of Valdosta; sister, Ann H. Sutton of Valdosta; uncles and aunt, Carl and Vera Jones of Graham, NC, Ernest Hiers of Columbia, SC and a special friend, James Taylor of Valdosta.

Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be conveyed online at obituaries at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
