Brenda Shelley, age 78, of Valdosta, GA, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, at The Presbyterian Home in Quitman, GA. Brenda was born on September 12, 1946, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Paul and Martha Hatcher. She graduated from Valdosta High School in 1964 and attended Valdosta State College. A bookkeeper for many years, she worked for Albert Saunders for several years and more than 20 years for Res Care Home Healthcare. Brenda was a devoted member of Park Avenue Church. She enjoyed watching many sports, always cheering loudest for the Valdosta Wildcats and the Georgia Bulldogs. In quieter moments, she loved reading, listening to music, and making new friends. Above all, her greatest joy came from being “YaYa” to her seven granddaughters, who were the light of her life.
Brenda is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Lisa and Bryant Cooper, Brooke Altman, and Morgan and Grant Barry, all of Valdosta, GA. She cherished her role as “YaYa” to her seven granddaughters, Samantha, Kendall, Mary Morgan, Anna Beth, Maggie, Claire, and Leah who brought endless joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Frances Hatcher, and her brother Bud Hatcher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Martha Hatcher, and her brother, Rusty Hatcher.
A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Park Avenue Church in Valdosta. Rev. Jamie Bone will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 10:00 am until service time. A private committal at Sunset Hill on the family lot will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Brenda’s memory to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lowndes County at www.caclowndes.org.
