Valdosta, GA

Beverly Kilpatrick Smallwood, 75, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, at The Fellowship Home at Brookside in Valdosta after a lengthy illness. Born on May 1, 1950, in Athens, GA, Beverly was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.

Beverly was the daughter of Robert Harvey Kilpatrick and Frances Smith Kilpatrick, who instilled in her the values of compassion and hard work. She graduated from Avondale High School in Avondale Estates, GA, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Georgia College in Milledgeville. A dedicated professional, she served as a Dietician in the Dekalb County School System for over 30 years before retiring in 2001, and she served as President of the 4th District School Food Service for a period.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Johnny Smallwood in 2020, and her sister, Mary Alice Kilpatrick in 2019. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tabatha and Jason McGee of Valdosta, stepdaughters and sons-in-law Shea and Connor Murphy of Atlanta, Dodie and Chris Chupp of Newborn, and stepson and daughter-in-law Steve and Donna Smallwood of Covington. Beverly also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Beverly had a passion for reading, attending craft festivals, and shopping. Every August, she looked forward to spending time in Helen with her sister, creating lasting memories that she treasured dearly. After retirement, she enjoyed her time working with the wonderful ladies at Curves for Women in Stockbridge, where she formed many lasting friendships. Two of those special friends were Ginger Marotta and Sheila Kelley, whom she will miss dearly.

Beverly was also known for her love of animals, especially her cherished cats, and she found delight in watching Hallmark movies, which often brought a smile to her face.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the remarkable staff at The Fellowship Home at Brookside and Georgia Hospice Care, whose compassion and dedication provided comfort to Beverly during her final days.

A funeral service will be held on August 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM to celebrate the life of Beverly. The family will visit prior to the service from 4-5PM.
