Betty Sutton Rudd

June 2, 1946 — June 4, 2023

Betty Sutton Rudd, 77, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023. She was born on June 2, 1946 in Valdosta, to the late Bernice Allen Sutton and Mildred Edna Smith Sutton. Betty became a LPN after her husband lost his battle with Kidney Disease. She wanted to help others so she began working at Valdosta’s first dialysis unit along with Dr. Gerald Light. She also worked as a nurse in the Georgia Prison System, Home Health Care, and Florida Prison System where she retired. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Her caring spirit was also shown in her personal life by helping so many in need. Betty loved her family. She selflessly raised her sons who lost their father at a young age. She did without to make sure their needs and wants were met. Betty gained two daughters whom she said were the daughters she always wanted. Norman Jean Blanton, a family friend who was always by her side, and Stacy Rudd, her daughter in law. Betty’s greatest loves were her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she never missed an opportunity to have them spend the night and spoil continuously.

Mrs. Rudd is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Stacy Rudd, of Valdosta; son, Dean Rudd, of Valdosta; close family friend, Norma Jean Blanton; grandchildren, Crystal and Jason York, of Hahira, Britney Rogers and Cameron Vincent, of Valdosta, Robin and Elijah Daniel, of Quitman, GA, Bobby Rudd, and Rusty Rudd, both of Valdosta; her great grandchildren, Cambree York, Brayden York, Anslie Rogers, Madeline Rogers, McKenna Rogers, Gavin Rudd, and Preston Rudd; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Jane Rudd, of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bobby) Washington Rudd, Jr., her brothers, Ronald Sutton, Kenneth Sutton, Fred Sutton, and Billy Sutton, and a brother-in-law, George Rudd.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Bussey officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
