Betty Sue Fletcher, 88, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Valdosta on February 14, 1936 to the late James Arthur Brown and Alma Downing Brown. She was a member of Lake Park Church of Christ.
Mrs. Fletcher was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Maxie Fletcher; sisters, Clarice Arnold, Kathryn Crawford, Ava Nell Becton, and grandson, Alan Forgay. She is survived by her children, Becky Forgay (Bobby) of Conyers, Georgia; Patsy Casteen (Revis) of Valdosta; Kathy Fletcher of Twin Lakes; Craig Fletcher (Sherry) of Perry, Florida; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Betty Sue was an avid racing fan and loved to talk NASCAR. She could tell you about every team, driver, car number and winner during race season. Her interest began back in the late 50s/early 60s, when she drove in Powder Puff Derby races at Thunderbowl Speedway and Valdosta 75 Speedway. She reminisced that she wanted to win for a gold watch, but came in second and “That doesn’t win you the gold watch!”
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the compassionate caregivers who took such good care of our mama/Granny/“GG”: Laurie Rentz (her sitter), Tracy Roberts (hospice nurse), and the nurses and staff of Hospice of South Georgia (Langdale Hospice House). Also, thank you Brother Ralph Russell for the special bond and calls of encouragement with our mom.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Lake Park Cemetery, Ocean Pond Road, Lake Park, Georgia with Terry Carter officiating. The family will visit prior to the service from 11-12pm.
Condolences to the family may be made online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Building Fund for Church of Christ of Lake Park or to Hospice of South Georgia (Langdale Hospice House).
