Betty Cook Cox, age 92, of Valdosta, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on July 16, 1933, in Laurens, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Nicholas Ray Cook and Ruby Alberta Brown Cook. Betty spent her early years in Laurens and graduated as Salutatorian from Ford High School in 1951. It was there she met Edgar Cox, a young member of the United States Air Force visiting family in the area. Their connection blossomed through church, leading to their marriage on July 11, 1952.

Throughout Edgar’s 23-year military career, Betty was a steadfast partner, moving alongside him to various locations. In 1971, they settled in Valdosta when Edgar was stationed at Moody Air Force Base, and they chose to make it their home after his retirement. Embracing new opportunities, Betty pursued nursing and became a registered nurse, dedicating over two decades of service at South Georgia Medical Center. Her commitment extended beyond her profession; she and Edgar were devoted members of Northside Baptist Church, where they joyfully contributed their voices to the choir for many years. Betty’s love of reading was a cherished pastime, and she was known for her compassionate care, offering kindness and support to her family, church community, friends, and fellow residents at the Canopy.

Betty is survived by her children and their spouses: Gary and Heidi Schroer Cox of Lake Park, Georgia; Jeff and Bebe Allen Cox of Nashville, Georgia; Mark and Cel Cox of Los Lunas, New Mexico; and Pat and Gregg Ray of Nashville, Georgia. She was a proud grandmother to Erik (Lori) Cox, Heather (Will) Neel, Seth (Katie) Ray, Brittany (Jason) Wiggins, Hailey (Alex) Collins, Sarah Cox, and Eirin Cox, as well as Amanda Cox. Her legacy continues through twelve great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edgar Cox; daughter-in-law Jo Karon Cox; grandson-in-law Chris Butler; sister Nancy Cook Lathrop; and brother Nicholas Ray Cook, Jr.

A funeral service honoring Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Pastor Robby Foster and Pastor Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow beside her husband at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family warmly invites friends to visit from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 E Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31602. Condolences may be shared online at www.mclanecares.com.
