Benjamin Franklin Futch II, 76, passed away on February 26, 2026, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ben was born on October 3, 1949, at Little Griffin Hospital in Valdosta, GA and lived in South Lowndes County his entire life. He attended Riverside Military Academy, Bowles School in Jacksonville, Florida and Valdosta State College. He was an entrepreneur and developer but was most proud of being a husband and father.

Ben started Super Cooker in 1978, where he manufactured large portable barbecue grills for over 35 years. During the 1980s, he started developing residential real estate in South Lowndes County, resulting in numerous subdivisions. He ventured into commercial real estate development in the 1990s, with the construction of the Carolina Pottery outlet center.

One of his greatest accomplishments was his vision for a recreational facility in the south end of Lowndes County, where he fundraised and saw to fruition the South Lowndes Recreational Complex. He also served on the Board of the Valdosta Boys & Girls Club for over 20 years.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Jewell Futch.

He is survived by his wife Susan of 49 years, four children, Dr. Pearce Futch of Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Leigh Futch of Athens, GA, Dr. Jamie Fendley (Lance) of Bogart, GA and Brooks Futch of Alva, FL, along with grandchildren Hudson Fendley, Truett Fendley and Hannah Futch. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Gus.

The family would like to thank all the healthcare providers that have helped Ben over the last few years for their incredible care and support.

A memorial service for Ben will be held at 11am on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The family will visit prior to the service from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch at 5671 Boys Ranch Road, Hahira, GA 31632. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
