Barbara Parker Milhous, age 87, passed away at Fellowship Home on May 5, 2026 after a brief illness.

Barbara was born in Hahira on June 7, 1938 and was a lifelong resident of this area. She was the daughter of the late Earl Sloan Parker and Lillian Bailey Parker.

Barbara married John T. Milhous, Jr. on March 1, 1959 and they were married 62 years prior to his death on January 19, 2022.

She was a graduate of Hahira High School, class of 1956, where she was Valedictorian of her class. After graduation she was employed by the Lowndes County Board of Education where she served in several positions. When she retired in 1998, after 42 years of service, she was secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.

She and John loved to travel and had visited all 50 states as well as the Holy Land in their retirement. She enjoyed Southwestern style square dancing as well as playing the piano and organ. For more than 30 years she has been pianist for the Rotary Club of Valdosta, and a local gospel group, the Milhous Gospel Quartet, which was named in her honor when it was organized in 2000. In addition, she has served as substitute pianist in various churches in the community as well as playing the organ and piano for weddings, funerals, and special events. Other community involvements include being a charter member of the Hahira Historical Society, Literary Guild, Woodmen of the World, American Legion Auxiliary Local Unit 13, and the Valdosta/Lowndes and State Association of Retired Educators.

Barbara was a member of the First Methodist Church of Valdosta and was a beloved member of the Becky Anthony Sunday School Class. She had served on several committees and sang in the Chancel Choir for many years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Carrie, granddaughter, Sadie, grandson, Teagan, sister, Juanita, nephews and nieces, Jamie (Cathy), Bobby (Jenifer), Claire (Jeff), Joseph (Caroline), Grace (Wesley), Jay (Annette), and Anna; five great nieces and one baby on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother-in-law, Jimmy and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Milton. She also leaves behind countless friends who she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 3:00 at the First Methodist Church of Valdosta. Visitation will be from 2:15pm until service time at the church. Interment will follow at Friendship Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Hahira. Reverend Dr. Anthony McPhail and Reverend Dr. Charles Adams will assist.
