April Palmer Wetherington DuPont at 72 years of age, went to be with the Lord on May 24th, 2025. A devout Christian and faithful, loving wife and mother, she was loved deeply by her family and friends. April was an active member of Liberty Christian Church in Green Bay, Virginia, and professed her faith in Jesus Christ by baptism in the First Baptist Church of Newport News, Virginia.
April was the daughter of Earl Cranford Wetherington and Diane Templeton Brown, both of Valdosta, Georgia. April met her husband Charlie while attending Valdosta State College in 1972, after which they joined the US Air Force. As an Air Force wife April was active in church activities, teaching, and rearing two beautiful children. April worked as Director and as administrator of childcare centers for more than twenty years, retiring with her husband of 53 wonderful years of marriage in Meherrin, Virginia.
April loved the rural life, spending many peaceful evenings enjoying the wildlife, farm animals. and her beloved maltipoo Coco from her home viewing deck where she lived with her husband in happy retirement. She is survived by her husband, a large family including her daughter Danielle Anderson of Palm Coast, Florida, her son Charlton DuPont, PAC (Jen) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and grandchildren Wilhemina Anderson, Penelope Anderson, Nolan DuPont, Elin DuPont, and Loren Perry (Tristan). April is also survived by two sisters, Temple Hammock of Valdosta, Ga., and Faith Stover of Erie, Pa., and brothers Rusty Wetherington, and Bill Wetherington (Davina) of Valdosta, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
April will be sorely missed by all, but we are consoled by the certainty that she is in the loving arms of Jesus Christ whom she loved more than life. In lieu of flowers she requested donations be made to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
A graveside service for April will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, Georgia. Dr. Charles Adams, Valdosta First United Methodist Church, will officiate the service. The family will visit on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 5-7 PM at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
