Anthony Michael Petty, 23, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Anthony was born July 13, 2001. He attended St John the Evangelist elementary school, graduating in May 2015. He attended Valdosta High School where he was a “Marching Cat” band member for 4 years, graduating with honors from the IB program and a member of the Beta Club, in May 2019. He then attended Valdosta State University, graduating in June 2023 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Geosciences. Anthony had two internships with Oil-Dry Corporation of Georgia while in college, then worked at Oil-Dry until he couldn’t due to his cancer.
Anthony was a Cub Scout with Pack 491 then a Boy Scout with Troop 491 both chartered with St John Catholic Church. Anthony earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout In December 2017.
Anthony spent his final days at home, where he was greeted daily by friends and family. He was comforted with food, fellowship, laughter, tears, and most definitely prayers. Anthony loved life. He loved this physical Earth, but he loved his Heavenly Father more. Anthony was a handsome guy who was always willing to help. "Ever the Boy Scout" is how he will always be remembered. Even as a young boy, he would jump in to help no matter what. Often it was from the persuasion of his parents-who are both doers and helpers too, but Anthony ALWAYS helped with a joyful spirit. If he ever took on a task or challenge, he gave it his all. Whether it was being an Alter Server at church playing the trumpet in the high school band, or tackling Geoscience studies and "ROCKING IT," Anthony gave 110%. Anthony had such passion about his career field, he loved to teach the next generation about rocks and Geoscience. He was always willing to share his knowledge and rock collections.
He truly loved the majesty of the Earth that His Father created. He traveled to explore as much as he could, and he marveled at the creations and magnificent creations found here. Yet, as he battled cancer, and his physical body failed, he turned his focus from the creation to the Creator. He always loved and followed God's direction in his life. Yet, as his trials and sufferings intensified, he found himself immersed in his love of the Lord, reveling in more than what God created, but more in the intense power of Peace, Grace, Mercy, and Love that truly makes him Lord.
Anthony is preceded in death by his grandparents Donald and Catherine Petty of Swoyersville, Pennsylvania, David Hendrickson of Valdosta, Georgia, and his Uncle Charles Moore of Lake City, Florida.
He leaves behind his Grandmother Carolyn Smith of Valdosta, Georgia, his parents Don and Donna Petty of Valdosta, Georgia, a brother David Norton and a sister Andrea Petty of Valdosta, Georgia, and many aunts and uncles and cousins and friends.
