Anthony Charles Marturano

May 15, 1951 — September 22, 2023

Anthony Charles Marturano, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 22, 2023, in the comfort of his home. Born on May 15, 1951, in Rome, NY, to Joseph and Jennie Farino Marturano, we were blessed to have him with us for 72 years.

Tony or Mertz, as he was known by his friends, lived a life that was a testament to the transformative power of faith and friendship. In his later years, he came to know Jesus on a personal level, developing an intimate relationship with Him that brought him immense peace and a deep understanding of The Father's unwavering love. His newfound spiritual connection radiated through his life, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Tony was a member of GracePoint Church in Valdosta, GA where he developed friendships that he cherished and were a strength and encouragement to him. When he was well, he volunteered his time to serving those in need through the Food Ministry.

He was a Naval Veteran, and later went on to work in various career fields including Revere Copper and Brass, Rome Air Development Center and various Casinos and Casino Cruise Ships. Most recently, he took pride in working with TKO Nissan and Valdosta Shared Office Space. He often spoke of how grateful he was to work in environments where he was treated so well, always felt appreciated and enjoyed working with his co-workers.

Tony is survived by his niece Johanna (Tavares) Vrboncic and her husband Allan, of Valdosta, GA; nephew, Manuel Tavares, and his wife, Joanne, of West Chester, PA; nephew, John Tavares, of Rome, NY; niece Sharon Tavares of Rome, NY; and nephew Adam Marturano and his wife Nora of Orlando, FL, along with several great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind several cousins including his close cousin and friend, Gloria (Martin) Hahn, and her husband, Richard of Sherrill, NY, and his very special friend, who was like a mother to him, Rev. Grace Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jennie Marturano; his sister, Rosaria Tavares; and three brothers, infant Anthony Marturano, Joseph P. Marturano, and Frank J. Marturano.
