Ann Crane

June 23, 1920 — February 2, 2005

Ann Crane, 84, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Emory Dunwoody Medical Center in Dunwoody, GA. Born on June 23, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Susie Maude Murphy Groover. Mrs. Crane attended Dixie Consolidated School and graduated in 1937. She attended Norman Park Junior College and the Baptist Bible Institute in New Orleans. She then moved to Valdosta when she married Dr. Joe Crane on May 8, 1943. She was a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and an accomplished pianist who played for children’s Sunday school classes for over thirty years. She was a former member of the Garden Club and greatly loved the care and nurture of animals.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Joe B. Crane, Sr. of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joe B., II and Linda Crane of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Kitty Sue and Freddie Brogdon of Lilburn, Patricia Ann and John Mason of Dunwoody; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth and Reverend John Harris of Birmingham, AL; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edyth Groover of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews and her faithful pet, Doodle. She is preceded in death by a sister, Emily Groover Thagard and two brothers, Ray Groover and Fred Groover.

Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church with Reverend Craig Rikard officiating. Burial will follow around 4 p.m. at the Dixie Cemetery in Dixie, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church Building Fund.
