Andrew Bennett Becton, Jr. (“Benjie”), 70, of Valdosta, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 while visiting friends in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on October 3, 1953 in Sacramento, California to Bennie and Harriett Becton. After Bennett graduated from Pompano Beach High School, he attended Valdosta State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
Bennett worked in the travel industry for almost 40 years. He began his career in Atlanta, Georgia with Eastern Airlines. He soon transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah and worked as a reservation agent and a vacation specialist. Bennett accepted a position with System One Global Travel Distribution with Eastern Airline in Miami, Florida as a data base technical specialist and then as a sales representative in Phoenix, Arizona. With Abacus Global Distribution System in Kansas City, Kansas he worked in product development. Bennett earned his PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and completed his career in Atlanta, Georgia with Travelport (a GDS owned by Delta Airlines) in product management and technical support. Bennett retired in 2016.
Bennett enjoyed domestic and international travel with family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving son, brother, care giver, uncle, and friend. Bennett had a great love for his Dandy Denmont Terrier dogs. He got his first Dandy in 2005 and has owned two to three at a time throughout the years. They were truly part of his family.
He is survived by his mother, Harriett S. Becton and brother, Stephen Becton, both of Valdosta, Georgia, and his sister, Becky Dulaney of Mobile, Alabama. He has a niece, Whitney (Chris) Byerly of Dallas, Georgia and nephew, Bennett (Amanda) Dulaney of Madison, Alabama, and his great nieces, Gracie Anne Byerly and Allie Byerly, and great nephew, Haddon Byerly of Dallas, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Bennett Becton, and his brother-in-law, Rev. Sam Dulaney.
A small graveside service with be held in Bennett’s honor at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Valdosta on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 2:00pm, with Pastor Garrett Grubbs officiating. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
