Alda Elizabeth Benefield, 82, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Presbyterian Home of Quitman.

Alda had a deep love for cooking and was known as an exceptional cook. She cherished her grandchildren and found great joy in dancing. She and her late husband, Bobby, shared a love for dancing and could often be found on the dance floor together. Alda was also a gifted singer.

Later in life, Alda developed blindness, but she never allowed it to slow her down. She continued to host gatherings, play Yahtzee, and enjoy life to the fullest. A lifelong and voracious reader, she adapted by listening to books when she could no longer read them herself. Her faith was important to her, and she attended church regularly, often bringing bubble gum along to help keep her grandchildren quietly entertained.

Alda took great pride in caring for her family, especially by preparing large breakfasts before school. She loved spending time by the pool, soaking up the sun, and tending to her roses and garden. She was an active and devoted grandmother who cared deeply for her grandchildren and instilled strong values in them. Affectionately known as “Mama B,” she was loved not only by her family but also by her children’s friends. Alda was the heart of her home and kept everything running with love and dedication.

She is survived by her daughter, Tamra Buska of Yorktown, VA; her sons, Bobby Gene Benefield, Jr. of Valdosta and Chad Owen Benefield of Clarksville, TN; her grandchildren, Joshua Buska of Williamsburg, VA, Jacob Buska of Stuttgart, Germany, Sky Buska of Newport, VA, Jenna Hendrick of Virginia Beach, VA, Bobby Benefield III of Valdosta, Lindsey Benefield of Clarksville, TN, and Caleb Benefield of Fort Rucker, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Owen Griffis and Lottie Mae Stone Griffis; her daughters, Sabrina Latrelle Andrews and Falicia Ann Benefield; all of her siblings Verna Hires, Johnny Lewis Griffis, and Nolan Griffis; and her loving husband, Bobby Gene Benefield, Sr., who passed away on April 8, 2026.

A graveside service for Alda will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Wayfare Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.mclanecares.com.

Arrangements are under the care of the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
