IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan R.
Simpson
September 23, 1952 – November 22, 2025
Alan R. Simpson, 73, of Brooks County, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Presbyterian Home in Quitman. Born on September 23, 1952, in Hahira, Georgia, Alan was a son of the late James Russell Simpson, Sr. and Betty Jean Rountree Simpson.
Alan grew up in Valdosta attending Parker Mathis and was a proud graduate of Lowndes High School, where he played basketball. After high school, he pursued a career in forestry, working alongside Buddy Coleman and the Langdale Company. In 1992, Alan started his own company Simpson Timber Company, successfully owning and operating the business for nearly three decades.
Outside of his professional life, Alan found joy in the outdoors. He had a deep love for hunting and fishing, often spending time on the Little River trying to catch red horse suckers. Family meant the world to Alan. He enjoyed hosting cookouts, having dove shoots and sharing good times with friends. His affection for Labrador retrievers was well known, and he was often seen riding his tractor or golf cart. He was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
Alan had attended Westside Baptist Church in his younger years, and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Michelle L. Simpson of Valdosta; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim Ray and Jennifer Simpson of Lake Park; his sister and brother-in-law, Robi Jean and Gary “Gator” Johnson of Sylvester, Georgia; and his special friend, Patricia McFadden of Quitman. He was also blessed to have a close special relative, Dena Webb of Jacksonville, alongside several nieces and nephews including Cassie Johnson, Crissy Barrett (& Lan), Scott Simpson (& Dwan), Andrea Whiddon (& Marty), and many other cousins, relatives, and friends.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Russell “Rusty” Simpson, Jr.
