William Haywood Moore

May 18, 1945 — November 13, 2020

On November 13, 2020 William Haywood Moore went to be with our Lord and Savior. Haywood or Haygood, as some friends called him was born at Little Griffin Hospital in Valdosta, Georgia to Ellis Lamar Moore and Ella Mae Shierling Moore. He lived in Remerton, Georgia for many years until his family moved to Valdosta. Haywood attended Valdosta schools and was in the VHS class of 1965 when he graduated. He played football, baseball and basketball at Valdosta High School. Haywood was a member of the Boys Club of Valdosta and was awarded athlete of the month many times. He was looked up to by many as a model in sports. He even coached at the Boys Club in basketball. Haywood attended Valdosta Technical School and earned a business degree. He worked at Stan Bishop Cleaners, Getz Exterminating as a salesman, Vicco Chemical as a salesman and Akins Petroleum Company as a fuel dispatcher. In his retirement years he was a driver for Langdale Ford. Haywood enjoyed the Remerton Reunion and class of 1965 reunions. He loved his church, Northside Baptist Church where he was an usher and on the security team. Haywood was active in Sunday School and the Men’s ministry activities. He loved football and attended Valdosta and Lowndes games. Haywood loved to eat out, workout at the YMCA, walk and visit neighbors. He loved people and never met a stranger.

Haywood is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Sara Linda Lackey Moore of Valdosta, daughter, Emily Ann Moore of Jacksonville, FL, son, William Patrick Moore of Valdosta, sisters, Carolyn Lefever of Lancaster, PA and Bobbie Rose LaPlante of Valdosta, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Charles Moore.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at three p. m. at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Robby Foster and Dr. Gary Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one until three p. m. at the church. Please consider donations to Northside Baptist Church, The Mailbox Club or to the Boys and Girls Club. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanecares.com. The family request that all in attendance at visitation or service wear a mask, social distance and abide by CDC guidelines due to Covid.
