December 18, 1942 — September 23, 2019

William C. (Billy) Wilkins, Jr., of Valdosta died Monday, September 23, 2019. He was born on December 18, 1942 in Valdosta at Little-Griffin-Owens-Saunders Hospital on Patterson Street in Valdosta to the late William Cortez Wilkins, Sr. and Neva Futch Wilkins.
Billy and his sister, Jean grew up on their parent’s dairy farm where he helped with the chores and enjoyed the great outdoors. That farm on a sandy road has been swallowed up by a growing city. He spent his summers living in cottage at Twin Lakes, where his parents owned The Pavillion and he reveled in the fun times of those days gone by. He began his school days at the Catholic Kindergarten on Adair Street and then attended the Valdosta City Schools and graduated from Lowndes High when it was located on Copeland Road.
He was married to the late Rosalyn McQueen and they had two children, Angelia Nell Wilkins Carr and the late William Cortez Wilkins, III. He served his country in the United States Army and in Vietnam.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Angelia Nell Wilkins Carr of Moultrie, his sister, Jean Wilkins Pipkin of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Ashley Carter and her husband Bailey Carter, Lauren Hamilton and her husband, Aspen Hamilton; great grandchildren, Charleigh Carter, Brayden Carter, Aiden Hamilton; his nieces, Stephanie and Kevin Mize, Stacey and Kevin Sasser; his nephew, Ed Bynum; great nieces and great nephews, Stephen Cortez Mize, Zachary Edward Mize, Bryant Thomas Mize, Ashlyn Jean Sasser, Kenneth Colby Gardner.
Billy was a kind and gentle person who loved his family. His quiet manner and sweet smile are precious memories.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30am, Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. John Akers officiating.
