William C. (Bill) Smith

Reverend William C. "Bill" Smith

William Charleton "Bill" Smith, age 73, retired minister, went to be with his Lord Thursday, July 29, 2010 after a lengthy illness and the tremendous care of the nurses and staff at The Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia. He was born to William Smith and Annie Lillian Long Smith of Valdosta, Georgia on June 21, 1937.

Bill graduated from Clyattville High School in Clyattville, Georgia, class of 1955. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted and proudly served 4 years with the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, Bill accepted the Lord as his savior and enrolled in Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri. After receiving a degree in Theology, he moved his family to Palatka, Florida were he was the founding pastor of Palatka Baptist Temple, a church he dearly loved and built from the foundation up with his own hands and the assistance of many special church members. Bill pastured many churches through out the states of Florida and Georgia until his retirement.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, William Smith and Annie Lillian Long Smith, a sister, Gladys Quinelle Smith Davis, a nephew, Gary Noel Wisenbaker, a niece Rhoda Paulette Davis, his brother's in law, Noel Wisenbaker and Richard Quinif and a sister in law, Doris Tenant Smith.

He is survived by the love of his life of 52 years, Iva Lois Foskey Smith of Alachua, Florida. His son, William Kenneth Smith, Sr. of Williston, Florida. His daughter, Charlene Smith Witt and her fiancé, Anthony Danley of Alachua, Florida. Grandsons, William Kenneth Smith, Jr. of St.Augustine, Florida, Wesley Carl Smith and his fiancé, Meredith Jackson of Alachua, Florida, Bradley Glen Witt of Alachua, Florida and Montgomery, Alabama and Jessie Kyle Smith of Palatka, Florida. His great granddaughter, Kayla Jordyn Smith of St.Augustine, Florida. His sisters, Lavelle Wisenbaker Quinif, and Martha (Dean) Jefferson of Valdosta, Georgia, Betty Sue (Hub) Gregory of Orange Park, Florida. His brothers, Harold (Verna) Smith of Donalsonville, Georgia, Herbert (Faye) Smith of Valdosta, Georgia, and Derrell (Gail) Smith of Palatka, Florida. His brother'n law, Paul Davis of Valdosta, Georgia. Several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services will be held at Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta, Georgia on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at McLane's Riverview Memorial Gardens, Valdosta, Georgia. Officiating will be Bill's long time friend, Colleague and present pastor of Palatka Baptist Temple, Palatka, Florida, the Reverend Ed Wilds.
