William C. (Bill) Blane

William Chris Blane, Sr., died on January 2, 2006, at his home in Valdosta, Georgia. Born on September 22, 1928, in Charlottesville, Virginia, William “Bill” C. Blane, Sr., was the son of the late Mary and Chris Blane who immigrated from Greece. The Blane family were the owners of the famous Green Turtle Restaurant in Valdosta. Bill graduated from Thomasville High School, Thomasville, Georgia, and served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Franklin Blane, of Virginia, in 1975. He was an entrepreneur with businesses in the South East and Texas and was well known for his movie theatres in Valdosta, Georgia. Bill was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club and many charitable organizations. Bill will be best remembered as an avid, skillful sportsman with a passion for hunting and fishing. His deep love for his family, and his life long hobby of photography have resulted in professional quality photographs that will be treasured memories of his time with us. <br><br>The family will receive friends on Friday, January 6, 2006 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with burial following at Riverview Memorial Gardens. <br><br>Survivors are his son, William Chris Blane, Jr., and wife, Durand of Vero Beach, Florida; his son, Martin Franklin Blane of Montgomery, Alabama; his granddaughter, Lauren Charlotte Blane of Montgomery, Alabama; his grandson, Christian Myles Blane of Vero Beach, Florida; his sister, Elaine Blane Vafiadis, and husband Nick Vafiadis of Laguna Niguel, California; his brother, Paul C. Blane and wife, Louise of Valdosta; his brother, Milton C. Blane and wife, Tatiana of Cumming, Georgia; Patricia Ramsey Blane of Houston, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the United States and Greece. <br><br>In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution in the memory of William Chris Blane, Sr. to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1131 Fairfax, VA 22038-1131 www.diabetes.org Condolences may be conveyed online at obituaries at www.mclanefuneralservices.com. <br>
